The Nigerian Real Estate Industry: The need for critical solutions to perennial housing challenges

Nigerian needs about 16m housing units to provide shelter for it’s over 168m people. Estimated at about 32m households, over 50% of Nigerians are either homeless or live in inadequate shelter. More alarming is the distribution of this house gap. A review of the distribution of households by housing units suggests that while there is a huge housing gap in urban areas where large population are concentrated, the rural areas seem to be in surplus, with an average family having a house. It also revealed the fundamental reasons behind the prevalence of urban slums in Nigeria.
